Ignou M.Sc In Counselling and Family Therapy (MSCCFT) is a two-year master degree programme.The university has applied the 2-tier system approach. It is offered by School of Continuing Education (SOCE). The basic components of this discipline are: Theory, supervised practicum, internship, and dissertation.

The Indira Gandhi National Open university offers admission in only July session for this programme. The term end examination is conducted by the university in the month of June in the next year i.e after completing one year of studies.

Programme Objective:  It has been designed with the main objective to provide an opportunity for learners to pursue higher studies in the field of Counselling and Family Therapy.The present world social scenario has continuously increased the requirement and demand for counseling and family therapy professionals.

The socio-psychological problems, maladaptive behaviors, declining mental health, and psychosomatic disorders has been increasingly witnessed in the present times.As a result, there is a huge demand for education and training in this area.

The university has introduced a very special feature in this programme i.e. the students have the provision of exit point after one year in the form of P.G. Diploma in Counseling and Family Therapy (PGDCFT).

Eligibility Criteria:

The candidate seeking admission in Master of Science in Counselling and Family therapy programme of Indira Gandhi National Open University must possess Bachelor’s degree with specialization in subjects like Human Development and Family Studies, Child Development, Human Development and Childhood Studies, Child Development and Family Relationships, Home Science, Psychology, Social Work, Medicine or other allied disciplines. “Allied disciplines” include Anthropology, Sociology, Education, Philosophy, MBBS or equivalent qualification in Ayurveda, Unani, Sidha or Homeopathy Medicines, Nursing etc. from a recognized University.

Programme Structure:

  • Duration: The minimum duration to complete the programme is 2 years. However, the university allows the maximum duration of 5 years to complete all the courses.
  • Fee Structure: The total fees is Rs. 28,000/- which the students have to pay Rs.14,000/- per year.
  • Age limit: There is no minimum and maximum age bar for this course.

Admission Procedure: Ignou M.Sc in Counselling and family therapy is one of the most demanding master degree distance course. It is very much popular among the students.

It has been already mentioned above that the admission is offered only in July session.So, the advertisement related to admission is published in the local newspapers and also on the official website of the university at www.ignou.ac.in in the months of February-March.

To apply for admission, students should visit their nearest Ignou regional centre and obtain the prospectus and application form. Alternatively, the prospectus can be downloaded from the official website of the university.

Alternatively, the students can fill up online admission form to register for MSCCFT programme. The university has set up online admission portal for students so that they can easily apply for admission by sitting at home.

Ignou MSCCFT Admission Status: Once the students fill up and submit the admission form, they have to wait for the admission confirmation. The university may take 10-15 days to update the admission confirmation status. Students can easily check the admission status online by entering their name, date of birth and programme code.
