Ignou MA in Translation Studies (MATS) – It is a master degree programme which has been developed by School of Translation Studies & Training (SOTST), Ignou. It has been developed to make the learners familiar with the theory and practices of translation.

The candidates who are interested in pursuing this master degree course can apply for admission in almost all the regional centres established by the university across India.

The programme has been made around the concept of integrating, learning with the research in the vast areas of translation practices in the contemporary time. It provides the learners with the vast opportunities to explore the practices and methods of translation in the academics.

The Ignou MATS discipline aims at improving the translation skills of learners to a higher level. With the globalisation of various sectors, the translation training has become very vital for knowledge dissemination in the global world.

The Indira Gandhi National Open University offers admission to MA in Translation Studies distance learning programme in both January and July academic cycles. Students can check out the last date of admission in the latest notification published by the university on its official website.

Also, the university publishes the admission related advertisements in the local daily and national newspapers in the month of September for January session and in the month of April for July session.

The interested learners from all over the country can apply for admission to MATS online or offline by submitting the application form at regional centre if they satisfy the eligibility criteria.

Fee Structure:

The candidates who apply for admission to MA in translation studies have to pay Rs.9,000/- for the complete discipline. It should be noted that the fee has to be paid year wise @Rs.4,500/- per year.

The fees once paid will not be refunded back under any circumstances. Also, it will not be adjusted against any other programme of Ignou.

However, the fee will be refunded back to the student only if the university denies the admission. It will be refunded back after deduction of the processing fee, if any, through A/c Payee Cheque only.

Programme Details:

  • Medium of Instruction: At the moment, it is available in Hindi medium only.
  • Eligibility Criteria: The candidate seeking admission in the PGDAST should be a graduate in any discipline from a recognised university with a minimum 50% aggregate marks.
  • Duration: To complete the MATS, the minimum time span is 2 years and the maximum time is 5 years.

Admission Procedure:

As we already mentioned above, the university offers admission in both January and July academic cycles. So, the students can apply for registration in any of these sessions.

First of all, the students must obtain the prospectus to know about the programme and other details about the university. Students can obtain the Ignou MA Translation Studies prospectus by following three methods:

  • It can be obtained from the regional centre in person by paying the sum of Rs. 200/- in cash at sales counters.
  • The candidates can also request the prospectus via post as well. In this case, they have to pay Rs.50/- extra. They have to pay the fee of Rs.250/- in the form of Demand Draft in favour of Ignou, New Delhi, to Registrar (Student Registration Division), Indira Gandhi National Open University, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi-68.
  • The applicants can also download the prospectus from the university official website.

After getting the prospectus, the students must read it carefully to know and understand the programme.

Now, it’s time to fill up the application form to apply for admission. Students can apply for admission via two methods:

  1. Online Admission (https://onlineadmission.ignou.ac.in/)
  2. Offline Admission (By visiting IGNOU Regional Centre)

Admission at Regional Centres:

The candidates who wish to apply for admission should visit the nearest Ignou regional centre to obtain the prospectus and application form. The university offers the ‘Round the Year Admission’ through its ‘walk-in Admission’ scheme.

Students have to fill up an application form and submit it along the prescribed fee in the concerned regional centre. The fee should be paid in the form of demand draft. The DD has to be made in the favour of IGNOU, payable at the city of regional centre concerned where you are applying for admission.

Note: The programme fee in the form of cash will not be accepted.

Apply Online for Admission:

The learners can also apply via online admission method. The university has set up an Ignou online admission portal where the students can fill up the application form to apply for admission. It saves a lot of time of the applicant who wishes to apply for admission. They just need to have the working computer and internet connection.

It is very simple and easy to fill up examination form online. First of all, they need to register themselves on the website. Then they have to login to the admission portal to fill up the application form. The candidate needs to upload the scanned copy of necessary documents, photograph, and signature.

After completing the registration process, they have to login to the portal. Then, they can fill up MA Translation Studies application form online.

But before applying for admission online or offline, the learner must read out the Iprospectus which contains all the necessary information.
