The Indira Gandhi National Open University offers admission to Ignou Certificate in Urdu Language programme under the School of Humanities. The learners can apply for admission in both January and July academic cycles.

The objective behind the introduction of Urdu certificate programme is to impart the knowledge to the students who want to read, write and speak Urdu correctly. It introduces script writing, pronunciation skills, communication and comprehension of Urdu prose and poetry.

The focus of the course is to make sure that the learner is able to improve the Listening, Speaking Reading and Writing skills in the Urdu Language. They should be able to accurately and fluently speak and write in Urdu.

The university also provides the Compact Disc (CD) along with the course material to help students efficiently improve their listening comprehension, speaking skills, using cultural vocabulary and pronunciation. It comes under the School of Humanities (SOH).

The University has invited applications from the learners all over the country to pursue their study in Urdu language certificate programme. The interested learners can apply for admission to CUL programme via Online as well as offline methods.

To apply for admission to Certificate programme in Urdu Language online, the applicants can visit the Ignou online admission portal.

The university has recently started this facility to provide admission online. To apply for admission via offline method, we have provided the details under the Admission Procedure section in this post.

The CUL admission eligibility and other programme details are mentioned below :

  • Medium of Instruction: Bilingual Hindi/Urdu
  • Admission Eligibility : The candidates seeking admission to this programme should be having knowledge of Hindi /Urdu at primary level of studies and he/ she should be interested in studying Urdu.
  • Fee Details : The total fees is Rs.1000/- (Note : Please confirm the latest fees from regional centre as it may change during the course of time).
  • Duration: It should be completed in a minimum period of 6 months and maximum period of  2 years.
  • Age Eligibility : The candidate should be of minimum 18 years of age and there is no maximum age bar for this course.

Admission Procedure:

The Indira Gandhi National Open University publishes the advertisement for admission to Certificate in Urdu Language programme in the local daily newspapers and other media sources.

Also, the university publishes the advertisement on the university official website at www.ignou.ac.in under the “Admission Announcements” section Usually, the CUL admission notification is published in the months of April-May and October-November for both July and January session respectively.

To apply for admission, the applicant needs to visit the nearest Ignou regional centre to obtain the prospectus and application form. The counselors in the regional center will guide you about the complete admission process.

The admission forms, other related forms,enrollment card, etc are provided in the prospectus itself. The university provides the link on its official website to download the Ignou prospectus which includes the complete detail about the programme. The university offers the ‘Round the Year Admission’ through its ‘walk-in Admission’ scheme.

Courses & Syllabus:

The students have to study total of 2 courses to complete their certification in Urdu Language. Each course is of 8 credits where one credit is equivalent to 30 study hours. The details about the courses has been mentioned below:
