- The university has been awarded from Commonwealth of Learning with the Recognition as Centre of Excellence in distance education in 1993 and also with Award of Excellence for distance education materials in 1999.
- The student enrollment in the starting days was not up to the mark but the enrollment has almost become doubled in four years from 1.5 million to over 3 million.The university has the largest network of Learning Support System.

- IGNOU has increased the number of academic programmes from three hundred thirty-eight to Four Hundred Ninty within a year.It’s a very big achievement.
- The University takes only forty-five days to declare any exam result which is too fast if we see the number of programmes and courses which are huge in number.
