The IGNOU Master of Library and Information Science programme has been introduced in a curriculum with an objective to provide education to students to develop professional human resource who can meet the varied demand for information handling in libraries and information centres in the country.

The School of Social Sciences (SOSS) has designed and developed this discipline.

It is a one-year Master degree programme which consists of seven Core courses and two Elective courses. The IGNOU MLIS admission is provided in both  January and July academic cycles.

The term end examination of IGNOU Master of Library and Information Science courses are conducted in the month of December for students admitted in January session whereas for July session, the exams are conducted in the month of June.

The total number of courses require to be qualified to complete the IGNOU master degree in Library and Information Science are 9 (36 Credits) where one credit is equivalent to thirty study hours.

IGNOU MLIS Programme Structure

The admission eligibility details about the IGNOU Master of Library and Information Science programme are mentioned below :

  • Medium of Instruction: English
  • Admission Eligibility : The candidates seeking admission to this programme should be having Bachelor’s Degree in Library and/or Information Science or Associateship from NISCAIR or DRTC.
  • Fee Details : The total fees is Rs.9000/- (Note : Please confirm the latest fees from the regional centre as it may change during the course of time).
  • Programme Duration: The minimum duration to complete the MLS programme is 1 year and the maximum time period within which it should be completed is 4 years.
  • Age Eligibility : There is no minimum and maximum age bar for this course.

IGNOU MLIS Admission Procedure

At present, the IGNOU MLIS programme is one of the most demanding master degree courses in India and abroad in which students want to take admission. The admissions for this program is provided by the university in both January and July session.

The admission related advertisement is published by the university in the local dailies and on the official website of the university at www.ignou.ac.in in the months of April-May and Oct- Nov.

The Candidates who wish to apply for admission are required to visit the nearest IGNOU Regional Centre to get the prospectus and application form.The admission form and other required forms, enrollment card, etc are provided in the prospectus itself.

The counselors in the regional centre will guide them about the complete admission process.The university also provides the link on its official website to download the soft copy of IGNOU Prospectus in the form of a pdf file which includes the complete detail about the programme.

The university offers the ‘Round the Year Admission’ through its ‘walk-in Admission’ scheme.

IGNOU MLIS Online Admission

The university also provides the option for learners to apply for admission through it online admission portal. So, the students can also fill up IGNOU Online admission form for MLIS programme while sitting at home.

They just need to have the working computer and internet connection. It is very simple and easy to fill up examination form online. The candidate needs to register them at the online admission portal.

They also have to upload the scanned copy of necessary documents, photograph, and signature. After completing the registration process, they can fill up IGNOU MLIS Online admission form.
