The Indira Gandhi National Open University offers admission to its distance learning certificate programmes twice in a year i.e in January and July. The Ignou certificate courses are offered by the University through Distance, Online and Regular mode of education.

These are skill based courses which have been designed and developed by the university to cater the education need of people who have 10th as their formal education.

The certificate in Arabic Language, Business Skills, Human Rights, French, food and nutrition, library science, computer, Cyber Law, Agriculture Policy, Sericulture, etc are some of the most popular courses among the learners.

The duration of Ignou certificate courses is short-term i.e. it varies from six moths to one year. Along with certificate programmes the university also offers other short-term and long-term disciplines such as Bachelor Degree, Master Degree, Diplomas, Advance Diploma, Post Graduate Diploma, etc.

All of these courses offered by the university are conventional as well as innovative. After completing their certification, the learners can apply for jobs in their related field in both government and private sectors. The syllabus and study material for all the distance courses have been designed in very easy and readable manner.

The university has introduced the various certificate courses in their list of offered courses because of increasing demand of skilled human resource. As per many surveys conducted by various organizations, it was found that the demand for these short-term certificate programmes is increasing.

So, the Indira Gandhi National Open University has taken the necessary steps to introduced these courses for the learners.

These courses have been launched to provide the learners with the Certifications. They will be able to improve their skills as well. The acquisition of professional qualifications, continuing education and professional development at the workplace, empowerment are some of the important objectives behind teaching these courses.

Duration:

The minimum duration is six months. However, the university allows the students to complete the course in a maximum duration of two years.

Medium of Instruction:

These courses are offered in both English and Hindi. The learners can make their choice to study the course in whatever medium they like.Some of the courses are only offered in the English medium as well. So, the students must check out the prospectus for the medium of instruction before applying for admission.

Admission Procedure:

The learners must be having basic qualification of 10+2 to apply for admission to any certificate course. The interested learners can apply for admission by filling up and submitting the application form to the nearest regional centre of the university. Before applying for admission, the learner should obtain the Ignou prospectus.

The students can either download the soft copy of prospectus from the university official website or they can obtain the printed copy of prospectus from the nearest IGNOU Regional Centre by paying Rs.200.- in cash.

The prospectus consists of all the important information and details. It also contains the forms required by the students throughout the studies like re-registration, re-evaluation, term end examination, etc.

There is another method by which the learners can obtain the prospectus. They can request the hard copy of Student prospectus by sitting at home.

They need to send the demand draft of prescribed fee in favour of IGNOU, New Delhi to the following address: Registrar (Student Registration Division), Indira Gandhi National Open College, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi-68.

You can check the prospectus fee in the latest admission notification from the website at www.ignou.ac.in. We are not mentioning the fee here because it may change during the course of time.

After obtaining the prospectus, the students can check out the course fee as it is different for different courses. The applicant needs to fill up admission form and submit it to the concerned regional centre along with the demand draft of the programme fee.

Students have to make the demand draft in favour of IGNOU, payable at the city of the regional centre where he/she applies for admission.

Online Admission:

The Indira Gandhi National Open University has recently started the IGNOU Online admission portal where the learners can apply for admission by sitting at home. They should have the computer and working internet connection. At the moment, the university is offering online admission facility for only a few of the certificate programmes. So, the learners must check out whether their chosen course is available in the list of courses which are available for online admission.
